With the launch of a new patents databases by the UK Intellectual Property Office this month, businesses now have access to all patents in force in the UK which are available for licensing. This actions one of the recommendations made in the Government’s independent review of intellectual property published in the Gowers report in 2006.

The database will help businesses identify opportunities by searching through over eight thousand entries for patents endorsed ”License of Right”. Kim Walker, Head of Intellectual Property and Technology at Paris Smith comments “This new database is free and is well worth a look. Having identified opportunities, clients can then turn to our specialist lawyers for help with the legal issues relating to the exploitation of the patents identified. We are currently working on a number of licensing deals involving patents and related intellectual property and this database is a welcome development.”.

A further database contains details of all UK patents which are no longer in force.

Please go to intellectual property services for full details of the services we provide on this subject.
