Thursday 6th September, 2007 South coast legal firm Paris Smith LLP has won an international safety award from one of the world's leading training and advisory bodies. The British Safety Council presented the accolade to the Southampton-based practice, which has 180 staff. Practice director Alan Cousins said: "We appear to be the only law firm in the south to have received this accolade, and it shows we practice what we preach to clients regarding health and safety". Only companies which achieve accident rates better than the industry average are eligible, with the award handed over at a winners' banquet in London. Paris Smith also impressed judges with innovative health and safety practices, such as panic alarms and an interative workstation safety risk assessment training aid for staff. The only other recipients in Southampton were national mapping agency Ordnance Survey, construction group Trant and civil engineering and building firm PT Contractors.
