According to the latest statistics there are more than 40 companies manufacturing vehicles in the UK making the UK the fourth largest vehicle producer in Europe manufacturing (in 2009) just short of 1,000,000 vehicles within these shores. Double that amount of vehicles were sold in the UK in the same year, a 6.4% drop on 2008, confirming a trend which dates back to 2004. The number of cars on UK roads has been going up more or less continuously for nearly 20 years and now tops 31,000,000. There are literally thousands of motor dealers who both sell and service those cars up and down the land. Whilst certain of those companies are listed plc's the vast majority of them are privately owned family companies which may have similar day to day issues but which are all unique in their trading, structure and development.
