Married Couples/Civil Partners

Any individual who is involved in a divorce or the dissolution of a civil partnership has a potential claim.

The courts have wide powers to redistribute non pension capital, pensions and income between spouses and civil partners.

Although the courts must use a checklist of factors in determining a fair result, they are also capable of applying principles which will be established from time to time in cases.  These principles often change and can be interpreted and applied by judges in different ways.

This discretionary system makes it very difficult to predict the outcomes of contested cases.

In recognition of this, we aim to reach fair and sensible settlements for all our clients, without proceeding to a contested hearing wherever possible.  We have unrivalled skills in alternative methods of resolving issues, such as Mediation and Collaborative Law.

That being said, there are also times when the courts help is needed.  There may be an emergency; or the nature of the dispute may be intractable.  In such cases we also have a huge depth of experience and ability.

Whatever the nature of the case, we proceed at all times as you wish, subject to your best interests being served at all times.
