For parents who are married, financial claims are normally dealt with as part of the divorce process. For parents who are not married, then it is still possible for financial claims to be brought but this must be done under Schedule 1 of the Children Act.
If you are a parent with care of a child then you may be able to bring a wide range of claims on behalf of the child which can include providing a home and requesting a lump sum of money. The money can be used for a wide range of things including purchasing a car and furnishing a home.
Child maintenance claims would normally be dealt with by the Child Support Agency unless you both agree otherwise or the paying parent's income is very substantial. It may also be possible to obtain orders for payment of private school fees.
