Following over 600 nominations and applications, the inaugural Southampton business women awards (Venus Awards) announces the semi-finalists for its 10 Sponsor judged categories, the top three of each will be invited to the Grand award ceremony at the Grand Café on 22nd May 2012.
The Venus Awards launched for Southampton and the SO postcode region in early January at the same time as the Dorset Langtry Manor Business Women Awards – now in its third year, also under the Venus Awards umbrella.
The awards were founded by Tara Howard, the Managing Director of Langtry Manor Hotel in Bournemouth, she was asked her reasons for starting the awards and her response was “Being a mother of four at the same time as running a successful business, I know only too well the pressures that women in business can be under. We often undervalue ourselves and our achievements. I wanted to create a system where women can be recognized for their achievements through nominations from their colleagues, friends and family. Thereby not having to make the first step themselves!
It inspires me to experience the excitement, pride and sense of achievement of the women as they make it through the various stages of the awards”
Following requests from women to bring the awards to their town, Tara is committed to bring the Venus Awards to more regions across the country.
The three remaining categories including the Daily Echo Business Mother of the Year, the Heart, Employee of the Year and the Paris Smith Employer of the year will be going to the public vote on 16th April, where you, the reader will have an opportunity to decide who in each of those categories Shall Go To The Ball!!!!
Southampton is to host the first of many local regional Venus Awards around the country. The Awards night is to be held on 22nd May at the amazing Grand Café. The Awards Ceremony is a black tie affair set to be the social event of the year. Due to the nature of the venue tickets are limited, however there are still some available and can be purchased through the Venus Awards website www.venusawards.co.uk/southampton.
